Holiday Party Planning

The holiday season is a great time to throw an unforgettable party. Below are some great ideas to throw a holiday party and not spend a fortune.

Entertainment
This is one of the most important items for the party.  This year add a photo booth to your event.  Apixture photo booth will capture all the special moments.  Your guest will have unlimited fun taking pictures and what a wonderful keepsake.

Food and Drink

Check Costco or Sam’s Club for great party platters and holiday food,  Also use friends and family to assist with food.  Check your local grocery store for specials too.

Encourage your guests to bring a dish or beverage.  You could even assign each guest a specific item on your shopping list — like cookies, appetizers, chopped veggies or drinks.

Host your party between meal times, (like 2-5 pm or 3-6 pm), or host an after-dinner cocktail party. You’ll only need to serve a few snacks.

Tighten your guest list.  While it may seem nice to invite the neighbors from two streets over even though you haven’t spoken in a year, it’s probably not worth the added expense when you’re working on a budget.

Shop on line or at big-box stores.  Amazon.com is a great place to get the best price on many holiday items.   Your local store may be more convenient, but it will cost you a lot more money for your party needs.

• Visit dollar stores. All kinds of fun decorations can be found at dollar stores. I’ve stumbled across many decorations that are almost exactly the same as the ones sold at party stores, but they sell for much, much less.•

Decorations are terrific because they can give your home an exciting holiday atmosphere. But who wants to spend a lot of money on seasonal décor that spends most of its time in storage boxes in the attic?

Homemade decorations are not only affordable, but they also add a personal touch to your party that will have your guests admiring your creativity.

Gabriel’s Angels Salud! 2013

Apixture Photo booth was honored to be part of the 2013 Signature Wine Party for Gabriel’s Angels.  This was such a excellent event for a good cause we thought we would include a small blog about this organization.

Gabriel’s Angels is the only program in Arizona that delivers healing pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children. Their short term goal is to instill in children an overall emotional sense of well-being, safety and happiness. Long term aspiration is to help children learn core social skills that will prevent them from continuing the cycle of violence as adults.

Presently they provide pet therapy services to over 115 agencies and serve 13,000 children annually through nearly 155 Pet Therapy Teams. Their services are provided free of charge to the agency and the children. Gabriel’s Angels pet therapy services are provided by volunteer Pet Therapy Teams, usually consisting of a companion dog and owner. Teams visit each participating agency on a consistent schedule to build trust, empathy and respect in the children.

Gabriel’s Angels future vision is to add 170 Pet Therapy Teams reaching an additional 10,000 children in Arizona.

Legendary lyricist, pioneer, and Hip Hop Sisters Foundation (HHSF) Founder / CEO MC Lyte and HHSF President Lynn Richardson kicked off the BET Experience weekend with a star-studded social to benefit MC Lyte’s non-profit charity, Hip Hop Sisters Foundation.

With this being her first soiree of the most highly anticipated weekend in Los Angeles, MC Lyte and Hip Hop Sisters Foundation superseded expectations. Celebrities and VIPs in attendance included Advisory Board Members Kelly Price, Kenny Lattimore, and Malcolm Jamal Warner, along with Kym Whitley, MC Smooth, D-Nice, and Sheila E, to name a few.

Approximately 300 tastemakers attended, including entertainment industry insiders, business executives, and community leaders, among others. In addition, the Ten-Ten Wilshire rooftop was tastefully transformed by event planners, Y.E.S. Productions..

MC Lyte gave a warm speech to welcome and thank her guests for their support. “Through the support we have received over the past year, Hip Hop Sisters Foundation has been able to touch the lives of our youth and empower them to take charge of their destiny. I would like to thank everyone for coming out to support us — including all of our sponsors and board members — and I extend a special thank you to YES Productions for making this happen,” Lyte said.

Lynn Richardson continued by sharing how the organization achieved it’s goals under MC Lyte’s leadership. “We met a little over a year ago, talked about what we wanted to accomplish, and soon after we were announcing $100,000 college scholarships on the Soul Train Music Awards red carpet and partnering with organizations like Hip Hop 4 Life and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority to help combat the negative effects of teen pregnancy, as well as the Thurgood Marshall Fund on the South African iLEAD tour from which we recently returned.”

In addition to enjoying the panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles, guests relaxed under the sun and mingled with some of Hollywood’s movers and shakers in the entertainment industry. The festivities included an open Ciroc Bar, food catered by Ladies Touch Catering, a MYX and Mingle Lounge and sounds by DJ Jahkova and celebrity guest dj, DJ Rebel.

Planning an Engagement Party

Ten to Eight Weeks Before the Party

  • Traditionally, the bride’s family throws the engagement party, but often the groom’s family likes to share in the festivities by cohosting the affair or holding one of its own. Part of the fun of an engagement party is letting your two families get to know each other.
  • Generally, the engagement party is held three to four months after the proposal.
  • Make sure your invitees are also on the guest list for the wedding ceremony and reception.
  • Decide if you want to register (preferably for gifts in the low to middle range of prices—don’t forget, the wedding is still to come), or if you’ll include a note in the invitation kindly requesting no gifts. If guests do bring presents, wait until after the party to open them.

Four to Six Weeks Before the Party

  • The tone of the party should be in keeping with that of your upcoming wedding. But remember, this is a time for two families to get to know one another in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. So if your future in-laws prefer fine dining to your family’s penchant for backyard cookouts, consider a sit-down dinner at a local barbecue joint, or cocktails and appetizers at the host’s home.
  • If you wish, choose a theme that reflects you as a couple or something that reflects your two families. No need to go overboard, though—the point is to celebrate your engagement.
  • Whether your party will be held at a restaurant or a private home, you should be mindful of any allergies or food specifications of your guests.
  • Consider a “team scavenger hunt” to get your families acquainted. But whatever the game, make sure it’s fun, simple, and involves everyone.  Enter into the photo booth to capture all the photo memories.

The Week of the Party

  • If the party will be in a home, give yourself a comfortable margin of time to buy the food, drinks, party goods, or anything else you may be contributing.
  • Make sure there are plenty of places for guests to sit and eat, and an area to store gifts. For a party iat someone’s home, arrange to have the lawn cut and the house cleaned, and be sure the AC/heat works. Let the neighbors know you will be having a party.
  • Need some extra hands to get everything done? Involve the members of your wedding party (if you’ve already chosen them).
